Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu, often referred to as Mahesh Babu, is an Indian actor, producer, media personality, and philanthropist who primarily works in Telugu cinema. He is one of the most popular and highest-paid actors in Telugu cinema.


Opens in a new windowBabu was born on August 9, 1975, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He is the son of veteran Telugu actor Krishna and Indira Devi. He has four siblings, including actress Manjula Ghattamaneni. Babu started his acting career as a child artist in the 1979 film "Needa" and made his debut as a lead actor in the 1999 film "Raja Kumarudu".

Babu has acted in over 40 films in his career and has won numerous awards, including five Filmfare Awards South and five Nandi Awards. Some of his most popular films include "Murari" (2001), "Okkadu" (2003), "Athadu" (2005), "Pokiri" (2006), "Dookudu" (2011), "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu" (2013), "Srimanthudu" (2015), "Bharat Ane Nenu" (2018), and "Sarileru Neekevvaru" (2020). His recent film, "Guntur Kaaram", released in January 2024, has been a huge commercial success.

Babu is also a successful producer and has produced several films under his own production company, GMB Entertainment. He is also a brand ambassador for several companies, including Pepsi, Idea Cellular, and Airtel.

In addition to his acting career, Babu is also a philanthropist and supports several charities. He is the founder of the Mahesh Babu Foundation, which works to provide education and healthcare to underprivileged children.

Babu is married to former Miss India World Namrata Shirodkar and they have two children, a son named Gautham and a daughter named Sitara.
